A top-up to an Indian number does not reach the carrier directly. You pay a reseller, and the reseller submits the top-up. Whether it lands depends on whether that reseller covers your carrier, and whether the product you picked applies to that number.

This guide is based on what Bitrefill's India refill catalogue publicly displayed on 9 September 2026. At that time the page listed Jio, Airtel, BSNL and Vi among Indian mobile operators, and set data products apart from ordinary airtime. Coverage and catalogues change, so the page as it stands when you order is what counts.

No Indian number has been tested with a real top-up here, and no delivery time, success rate or price conclusion is offered.

Key points

  • Jio, Airtel, BSNL and Vi all appeared in the catalogue on the day it was checked
  • Airtime credit and data bundles are different products with similar names
  • Number ranges no longer indicate the carrier once a number has been ported
  • Postpaid numbers are not always supported; the product description decides
  • Confirm arrival on the carrier's side, not from the reseller's order status

Operators listed on the day it was checked

The table records the Indian mobile operators visible on Bitrefill's India refill page on 9 September 2026. This is what the page displayed, not a guarantee of availability — whether your specific number can be topped up only becomes clear at the last step of the order.

Prepaid and postpaid matter especially here

The large majority of Indian numbers are prepaid: you load credit and spend it down. Postpaid numbers are billed monthly, and adding money to one is really a bill payment running through a different interface.

Most reseller channels handle prepaid only. If the number is postpaid, look for an explicit statement of support in the product description; otherwise the order may be rejected, or the money may land somewhere that does not offset the bill.

Airtime credit or a data pack

In Indian operator catalogues, general balance (talktime or airtime) and data packs typically sit next to each other at similar prices with quite different uses.

When you are unsure what the recipient needs, general balance is the safer purchase: they can buy whatever plan they want from the operator's own app, whereas a data pack bought in error normally cannot be converted back.

Confirm these before ordering

All of these are on the top-up form. Walking through them takes a minute and prevents most "paid but nothing arrived" orders.

  • The country is selected correctly and the country code is not entered twice.
  • The carrier matches what the handset shows — number ranges are unreliable after porting.
  • Whether the number is prepaid or postpaid, and whether the product supports it.
  • Whether you are buying airtime credit or a data bundle; they do not interchange.
  • The denomination's currency and how it converts against your payment asset.
  • The payment networks the checkout lists right now, not from an old note.

Confirming it arrived

"Completed" on the reseller's order page usually means the top-up was submitted to the operator, not that the operator has credited the account. There can be a gap between the two.

Real confirmation happens on the number itself: dial the operator's balance code or open its official app. Do not reorder before that confirmation — duplicate top-ups are usually not refundable.

If nothing arrives

Work through it in order: did the transfer confirm on-chain, did the platform credit it, does the order show delivered, and did the balance change on the operator's side. The first step that does not hold is where the problem is.

Bitrefill's help centre states that undelivered orders are refunded once you supply a refund address, that successfully delivered voucher codes cannot be refunded, and that refunds must be requested within 30 days of the transaction. Other platforms set their own rules; their current terms are what apply.

Frequently asked questions

I am not in India. Can I still top up an Indian number?

It depends on whether the reseller covers India and that operator, not on where you are. Select India and the target operator on the top-up page: if products appear, a channel exists; if not, there isn't one.

Are Vi, Vodafone and Idea the same thing?

Vi is the brand used after the Vodafone Idea merger. Select whatever name the page currently lists rather than working from an older brand name, and do not pick a virtual operator with a similar name.

How long does the top-up take?

No delivery time is claimed here, and no real top-up has been tested. Timing depends on the operator and the channel at that moment. Use the platform's own statement and confirm on the number.

Can a mistyped number be recovered?

If the top-up reached a real number, usually not. Bitrefill's refund policy states that successfully delivered products are not refunded, including a wrong selection. Reading the number back digit by digit is far more effective than appealing afterwards.
